Spilt Ink Press is dedicated to exploring the raw, the real, and the resonant. We’re interested in works that challenge, inspire, and provoke thought—whether through the power of novels, novellas, poetry, short stories, or other creative projects. If your writing taps into the human experience in a unique way, we want to hear from you.
What We’re Looking For:
- Novels & Novellas: We seek full-length novels and novellas that offer fresh perspectives, challenge conventional narratives, and delve deeply into the complexities of the human condition. We’re particularly interested in literary fiction, speculative fiction, magical realism, fantasy, sci-fi, and works that blur the lines between genres.
- Poetry Collections: We welcome poetry collections that push boundaries, offer innovative forms, and explore themes such as identity, trauma, healing, and the intricacies of life.
- Short Story Collections: We are looking for cohesive collections of short stories that present unique narratives and experimental storytelling techniques, offering new insights into life’s complexities.
- Creative Nonfiction: We’re interested in memoirs, essays, and other nonfiction works that tell compelling true stories with a creative twist. We seek works that engage readers on both an emotional and intellectual level.
- Mental Health Journals: If you’ve created a guided journal, workbook, or reflective writing tool that helps individuals navigate their mental health journey, we’d love to see it. We are interested in projects that are both compassionate and practical, offering genuine support to those in need.
- Other Creative Projects: We are open to considering innovative and experimental works that don’t fit neatly into traditional categories. If you have a unique creative project that you believe aligns with the ethos of Spilt Ink Press, we encourage you to submit.
Submission Guidelines:
- Novels & Novellas: Please submit a query letter, a synopsis (1-2 pages), and the first three chapters of your manuscript. If we’re interested, we’ll request the full manuscript. Novels should be between 50,000 to 100,000 words, and novellas should be 20,000 to 50,000 words.
- Poetry: Submit a query letter along with a full manuscript of your poetry collection (up to 100 pages). Include a brief description of the themes your work explores and any relevant publication history.
- Short Stories: Submit a query letter, a brief synopsis of your collection, and 2-3 complete stories from the collection. If we’re interested, we’ll request the full manuscript. Collections should be between 40,000 to 80,000 words.
- Creative Nonfiction: Submit a detailed proposal including a chapter outline, market analysis, author bio, and two sample chapters. We welcome a wide range of topics, especially those that challenge conventional thinking or provide new insights.
- Journals: Submit a detailed proposal that includes the purpose of the journal, a sample of the guided content, and any research or personal experience that informs the work.
- Other Projects: Please submit a detailed description of your project, including its concept, format, and intended audience. We encourage you to think outside the box and share your vision with us.
Format: All submissions should be in Word or PDF format, double-spaced (except for poetry, which may be single-spaced), with 12-point Times New Roman font. Please include your name, email address, and the title of your work in the header of every page.
How to Submit: Please email your submissions to Hannah@HannahRGordon.com with the subject line: “Spilt Ink Press Submission: [Your Book Title].” We aim to respond to all submissions within 8-12 weeks.
